MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING OF
16 March 2009 Opening Ceremony: Commander Abney called the meeting to order in proper form at 19:34 hrs on Monday, 16 March 2009, at the Post home with the POW-MIA flag being in place. Roll Call of Officers: The roll call produced a quorum. 7 Officers and 1 Executive Committee Member (ECM) answered the Roll Call. Chaplain Morgan and ECM Howard are absent. Past Commander Erb, Sergeant-at-Arms Denes and ECM Martin are excused. 3rd Vice Commander and Adjutant are vacant. Suspension of the Normal Order of Business: Commander Abney asked for a motion to suspend to allow for a guest speaker. Such was so moved by Judge Advocate Whiting, seconded by Historian Rein and passed by the Executive Committee. Marcie Kurdic of the Diversity Center gave an interesting presentation concerning their in-school and after-school programs to fight prejudice. She also asked that we participate in the “Center’s” annual Walk-a-thon/Run. She mentioned a special offer to allow us to buy Indians tickets and sing the anthem for an Indians game. All of these opportunities would further their cause. With a motion by Judge Advocate Whiting, seconded by 2nd Vice Gladden and passed by the body, the Executive Committee returned to its normal order of business. Reading of the Minutes: Commander Abney asked if everyone had the minutes of the prior meeting. Judge Advocate Whiting noted that the 02 Mar 09 Membership Minutes were done by First Vice Commander Stennis and thanked him for a job well done. The body never completed the reading of the minutes and no one moved to accept them. Reports of Officers: 1st Vice Commander: 1st Vice Commander Stennis said that the membership was over 100% with 304 members. He also reminded us of the 01 APR 09 Round-up scheduled for noon. The event will include officers from National, Department, District and County. The 1st Vice encouraged all to attend and adds that Post members should be very proud because there are only two other posts in Lake County that are over 100%. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to accept 1st Vice Commander Stennis’ report and 2nd Vice Commander Larry Gladen seconded. Motion carried. 2nd Vice Commander: 2nd Vice Commander Gladen reported that the post breakfast is this Sunday and they made $xx profit which they donated to the SAL St. Patrick’s Day they will be selling corn beef sandwiches for $6.00 and Rueben sandwiches for $7.00. EMC Mike Evans moved to accept 2nd Vice Commander Gladen’s report with a second from 1sr Vice Commander Stennis. Motion carried. 3rd Vice Commander: The office is vacant. Commander Abney reports that they will be having the final orientation for the Boys and Girls State Programs. There was no report from the Color Guard. Finance Officer: Brian Rodecker reports that the inflow was $xxx.25 and the outflow was $xxxx.42. Our check book balance is $xxxx.91. Historian Rein moved and 2nd Vice Commander Gladen seconded to approve the report. Motion carried. Historian: Al Rein has no report. Service Officer: John Chebra reports that there was one death; Ron Whiting's father Mike Whiting and two illnesses: Rebecca Motts better known as “Sam” and Robert Kailvern. 2nd Vice Commander Gladen moved and Finance Officer Rodecker made the second to approve the report. Motion carried. Judge Advocate: Judge Advocate Whiting reports that he had a request from a Son of the Legion to recalculate his date of return from suspension. The Judge will take no action unless he hears from the Son again. 2nd Vice Commander Gladen moved and 1st Vice Commander Stennis seconded to approve the report. Motion carried. Trustees: No report. SAL Advisor: No report Chaplain: No report Pavilion Committee: No report Charity Committee: 1st Vice Commander Stennis reports that he received two thank you gifts of appreciation. One was an American Flag and the other was a framed “Thank you”. 2nd Vice Commander Gladen moved and EMC Evans seconded to approve the report. Motion carried. Old Business: None New Business: None Good of the Legion: 1st Vice Commander Stennis congratulated everyone for participation in the Rebecca Moss Fundraiser. Commander Abney noted that the total amount raised was $xxxx. Commander Abney reminded the members that the Lake County Council will be March 19 and encouraged all officers to attend. He also received a “Thank you” note from “Joe”. Judge Advocate Whiting gave the schedule of activities for his father’s memorial service. With a motion from Finance Officer Rodecker and a second from Historian Rein the Commander adjourns the Executive Committee Meeting at 20:14 hrs. The Commander leads the observance of the ritual.
