MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING OF
20 April 2009 Opening Ceremony: Commander Abney called the meeting to order in proper form at 19:35 hrs on Monday, 20 APR 2009, at the Post home with the POW-MIA flag being in place. Roll Call of Officers: The roll call produced a quorum. 10 Officers and 2 Executive Committee Members (ECM) answered the Roll Call. 3rd Vice Commander and Adjutant are vacant. Reading of the Minutes: Commander Abney Announced that the membership Meeting Minutes of 06 APR 09 would be presented at the next meeting along with today’s minutes Introduction of Guests: Commander Abney introduced Mrs. Cora Duruttya President of the Ladies Auxiliary, Rex Bucks (Ohio Det 2nd Vice, SAL), Rick Duruttya and Keith Bell (Sqdn 336, SAL). Reports of Officers: 1st Vice Commander: 1st Vice Commander Stennis said that the membership was over 100% of 311. There are two candidates for membership: Ronald Lantz, active duty in the USMC from Lorain and Myron Telencio, Navy Viet Nam Vet from Painesville. Past Commander Erb moved to accept the candidates for membership with a second from Chaplain Morgan. Motion carried. 1st Vice Commander Stennis mentioned that any membership after 01 MAY will be contributed to the 2009/2010 membership and dues will start around June or July. Chaplain Morgan moved to accept 1st Vice Commander Stennis’s report with a second from ECM Martin. Motion carried. 2nd Vice Commander: 2nd Vice Commander Gladen reported that the roast beef dinner and lip sync went well. He was given $xxx and sold 42 dinners for $xxx, spent $xx for prizes, made $xx on the 50/50 raffle and is giving back $xxx. Historian Rein moved to accept 2nd Vice Commander Gladen’s report with a second from Chaplain Morgan Motion carried. 3rd Vice Commander: The office is vacant. 1st Vice Stennis reports that they will be having the final orientation for the 10 Boys and Girls State at Post 678. Comrade Kapes will take a Boys State group photo on 08 MAY 09. Trustee Babic, Color Guard. mentioned that they will be ready for Memorial Day and Commander Abney said he would invite the City to the meeting on 04 May. Finance Officer: Brian Rodecker reports that the inflow was $xxxx and the outflow was $xxxx.36. Our check book balance is $xxxx.64. Ticket income last month was $xxxx. All financial details are in his report and it was distributed. He said the Post will be selling raffle tickets for the dirt bike and proceeds will go to Mike Dye’s wife and daughter. 2nd Vice Commander Gladen moved and ECM Howard seconded to approve Finance Officer Rodecker’s report. Under discussion he told Past Commander Erb that he still has two checks at home to be deposited: $xxxx from bar profit and $xxx from the County Raffle. He cashed in two $xxxx CD’s and there is still about $xx,xxx in CDs. Motion carried. Historian: Al Rein has no report. Service Officer: John Chebra reports that there was one death of William Brown, Marine and one illness, Julia Johnson who is recovering from knee surgery. Historian Rein moved and Chaplain Morgan made the second to approve the report. Motion carried. Trustees: No report. Judge Advocate: Judge Advocate Whiting mentioned they had a special hearing earlier tonight and asked Past Commander Erb to review the slate with him that he had presented at the 06 APR 09 Membership Meeting. He wants to assure that the candidate info is correct. ECM Howard moved with a second from 2nd Vice Commander Gladen to approve the report. Motion carried. Charity Committee: 1st Vice Commander Stennis reports that he and the Commander will attend the Project Hope Banquet. We have about $xxxx in their special account. Charity has 5 requests on file. Many people have praised Charity’s and the Post’s support. He will try to have some of their leaders visit a meeting to talk to us. ECM Martin moved and Finance Officer Rodecker seconded to approve the report. Motion carried. SAL Advisor: No report Chaplain: No report Pavilion Committee: No report Old Business: None New Business: None Good of the Legion: Judge Advocate Whiting wanted to remind everyone that we need to get notification of our Delegates and Alternates to the 9th District Convention on 06 May to Commander Hahn. Since we meet 04 May we will have to get him the result that night. Mrs. Cora Duruttya, President of the Ladies Auxiliary, asked if a larger exhaust fan could be installed in the kitchen. She was told that if it could, it would have to be put in an outside wall. 1st Vice Commander Stennis mentioned that Harry Hahn’s house burned down and is being taken care of through social services and everything will be fine. The Ohio Legion Convention will be in Dayton on 26, 27 & 28 JUN. 1st Vice Stennis has the info packet. EMC Martin mention that Painesville Pride’s article informed that every Friday is Military Pride day and all should wear red to honor our military members and vets. There is a shop at 296th & Euclid where people can buy military items. Commander Abney mentioned that there will be a VA Fest 2009 Resource Fair at the Louis Stokes Veterans Medical Center at Wade Park from 11:00 hrs. to 16:00 hrs. on 02 MAY. Refreshments, free hair cuts and many other services will be available. Commander Abney read a letter he received from the National Commander congratulating our post for membership. With a motion from Finance Officer Rodecker and a second from Historian Rein the Commander adjourns the Executive Committee Meeting at 20:09 hrs. The Commander leads the ritual.
