MINUTES OF THE MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF
06 October 2008 as transcribed from wave files of the same date Opening Ceremony: 1st Vice Commander Stennis, standing in for the excused Commander Abney, called the meeting to order in proper form at 19:29 hrs on Monday, 06 OCT 08, at the Post home with the POW-MIA flag being in place. Lake County County Chaplain and Post Historian Rein, standing in for the excused Chaplain Morgan, delivered an opening prayer. Roll Call of Officers: Commander Abney instructed the Adjutant (Adj) to conduct the roll call. A quorum is present including 9 Officers, 1 Executive Committee Member (ECM), 2 Trustee and various Post Members. Commander Abney, Chaplain Morgan and Trustee Dillon are excused by the 1st Vice Commander. ECM's Buchs and Nighman did not answer the call. The offices of 3rd Vice, Adjutant and ECM remain vacant. Reading of the minutes: Historian Rein moves to suspend the reading of the minutes and to accept them as published. With a second by Trustee Babic, the motion passes. Guests: There are numerous guests, including Ms Stennis and Jen Ferbotta (VA) who made a presentation for our support of Veterans Appreciation Day with special recognition of 2nd Vice Gladden. The Commander of the CAP presented a certificate for our support of their youth. Rex Buchs and several Sons from our Squadron were our guests also. Reports of Officers: 1st Vice Commander: 1st Vice Stennis reports that 65% of our membership has paid 2009 dues. He will post a listing of the 160 unpaid members. He presents applications of Michael Patterson, Kenneth Kapes and Harvey Yeager, Mr Washington for membership. All documents are in order for the candidate. Trustee Babic moves to accept the candidates. Historian Rein seconds and the body passes the motion. Judge Advocate Whiting moves the acceptance of the report, Comrade Smolinski seconds and the motion passes.

2nd Vice Commander: Larry Gladen thanks our VA guests for their work with Veterans Appreciation Day but has no report. 3rd Vice Commander: This office is vacant, but 1st Vice Stennis asks the Color Guard Commander Babic to report on their activities. He reminds us of the upcoming 11 NOV Veterans Day ceremony. Finance Officer: FO Rodecker reports that for AUG 08, we had $x,xxx.xx inflows, with a net in the red of $xxxx.xx primarily because of our membership payment to Department. Otherwise we would have been a little in the black. We received $xxxx from the Bingo Split and bar profit was $xxxx. Historian Rein moves to accept the Finance Officer's report, which is seconded by Comrade Smolinski and the motion passes. Historian: Al Rein has no report. Chaplain: Excused; no report. Service Officer: John Chebra's reports three illnesses; Mike Whiting (SAL), Mike Perry (SAL), David Furtaw. We had no deaths of Post Family Members. However, Past Commander Erb reported the death of prior Post Chaplain Pavic's father. Trustee Babic moves for the acceptance of the report, which is seconded by Trustee Smith. The body passed the motion. Judge Advocate: Judge Advocate Whiting has no report. SAL Advisor: Comrade Wietrzykowski files no report. Budget and Finance Committee: No report. Pavilion Committee: No report. Charities Committee: Comrade Rob Moore reports that we have $xxxx in the Charities check book. There are four outstanding requests. 31 OCT 08 is the end of the Charities fiscal year and an audit will follow. A motion by Judge Advocate Whiting to accept the report is seconded by Trustee Babic. He then opens discussion concerning the committee's meetings. The consensus is to meet once a month before or after the Membership Meeting. The motion passes. Trustees: Stan Babic submitted a written report. 2nd Vice Gladen moves to accept it as published. With a second by Judge Advocate Whiting, the motion is adopted by the body. Unfinished Business: 2nd Vice Gladen reports that the Moose raised over $xxxx to aid Marge Herrega. We have no current plan to foster a fund raiser because many of our member supported the Moose Lodge's successful event. New Business: Without a motion the Chair appoints the Service Officer to send a card to the family of an acquaintance of ECM Evans. The young man was a Florida resident who has paid the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan. For the Good of the Legion: 1st Vice Stennis briefs on a thank you letter directed to the Post's Charity Committee. Past Commander Erb, Lake County Council Service Officer, reports on several legislative changes that affect veterans. New gambling laws change money kept by the Post from 75% of the first $70,000 to 75% of the first $150,000 of bingo profit will belong to the Post effective NOV 2008. Judge Advocate Whiting congratulates 1st Vice Stennis for his leadership and control of the gavel during this Membership Meeting. Acting Commander Stennis, following proper ritual, adjourns the meeting at 20:12 hrs.
