MINUTES OF THE MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF
02 February 2009 Opening Ceremony: Commander Abney, called the meeting to order in proper form at 19:34 hrs on Monday 02 February 2009, at the Post home with the POW-MIA flag being in place. Roll Call of Officers: The roll call produced a quorum. Judge Advocate Whiting stated that he was in error. John Howard had resigned as Adjutant, he is present and is now the third Executive Committee Member (ECM) and a voting member. 9 Officers and 1 ECM answered the Roll Call. Past Commander Erb and ECM Evans and Martin are excused. The 3rd Vice Commander and the Adjutant are vacant. 3 Trustees attended the meeting. Reading of the Minutes: Commander Abney called for a suspension of the reading of the minutes of the prior meeting. Trustee Babic moved for acceptance of the minutes as published. With a 2nd from Trustee Smith, the motion passes. Introduction of Guests:: Rex Buchs, SAL Det 2nd Vice, Rick Duruttya, Keith Bell, Sqdn 336, Joe Styblo, Jim Smith (BALD) and Jamie Banibell (BALD) are guests. Reports of Officers: 1st Vice Commander: 1st Vice Stennis reports 100% of quota as of yesterday and thanked everyone. He reported that as of now we are second in the County behind Post 678 and after he sends in his cards we will be first. He has one person for membership; Larry Wright from Painesville. Historian Rein made the motion to accept the candidate. The motion passes. Chaplain Morgan moves to accept the 1st Vice report, Frank Smolinski seconds and the motion passes. 2nd Vice Commander: 2nd Vice Gladen reports That the Lip-sync Contest did not do very well due to bad weather. The total cost was $xxx which included $xx for potatoes that he left in his car and got frozen. He will reimburse the Post. (Vets & guests – total income $xx). Under discussion from the chair Commander Abney exempted 2nd Vice Gladen from paying back the $xxx for the potatoes due to the bad weather. Frank Smolinski moves to accept the 2nd Vice report. Motion is seconded by Trustee Babic and the motion carried. 3rd Vice Commander: The office is vacant. Commander Abney reported that we have the Buckeye Boys this Saturday and the A&G testing has begun in all 3 high schools and everything is the same and nothing has changed. Color Guard Commander Babic reports that they took in $xxx on the spaghetti dinner. No motion was made. Finance Officer: Brian Rodecker reports for the month of January we took in $xxxx.50 with $xxxx.35 of outflows. Our check book balance is $xxxx.26. He said things are really tight with the canteen and ticket sales taking a nose dive and he still has bills to pay. This is probably the lowest month we have ever had. He is getting ready to do the taxes and highlighted last year’s operating expenses:

Motion carried. Service Officer: John Chebra reports no sickness or deaths. JA Whiting moved and Trustee Smith seconded to approve the report. Motion carried. Chaplain: John Morgan has no report. Historian: Al Rein has no report. Judge Advocate: Judge Advocate Whiting had no report. SAL Advisor: No report. Charity Committee: 1st Vice Stennis mentioned that JA Whiting was voted on to go to the Andy Nowacki Scholarship function at LaMalfa Party Center, but if anyone else is interested to let him know. It will take place 03 APR 09 and feature Joey Dee and the Starlighters. He informs the Commander thank you notes received from last month’s scholarships of the post. We have several requests for scholarships and another for Special Olympics. Charities has $8500 to spend. Trustee Babic moves and 2nd Vice Commander Gladen made the second to approve the report. Motion carried. Pavilion Committee: Chairman Gladen had no reported Select Committee on Smoking: Chairman Abney had no reported Old Business: JA Whiting offers the results of his research to Chairman Abney of the Select Committee on Smoking. New Business: Commander Abney asked the guests if they wanted to introduce themselves? Joe Sidlow has information he gave to the Sergeant-at-Arms regarding what the BALD Run’s (Bikers Aid to Local Diabetes) connection with Life Line. Most of the money raised goes to Life Line adults and children with diabetes. He thanked the Post for all their involvement for the past three years. They are planning a Poker Run on Saturday, 27 June 09 and are asking the Post to be their host and use the Post as the start and stop. They will serve breakfast and dinner. They also requested a cash donation. Commander said he would forward all the information to the Charities Committee at the next Executive Committee Meeting. Joe Stiblo will make his presentation after the meeting during the fellowship meal. Good of the Legion: 2nd Vice Gladen mentioned that the Auxiliary has fish frys every Friday and a spaghetti dinner in May and that he feels it is too much work and is not profitable. He suggested cutting down on these functions. Ken Kapes offers that vets can salute the flag even if out of uniform and uncovered. For the web site he asks to have dates and times added to the listing of events. Ken asks and the 1st Vice replies that the post’s membership count is 298. With a motion from Frank Smolinski and a second from Trustee Dillon the Commander adjourns the Executive Meeting at 20:15 hrs. The Commander observes in the observance of the ritual.
