MINUTES OF THE MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF
01 Jun 2009

Opening Ceremony: Commander Abney, called the meeting to order in proper form at ________ hrs on Monday, 01 JUN 2009, at the Post home with the POW-MIA flag being in place.

Roll Call of Officers: The roll call produced a quorum. 9 Officers and 3 Executive Committee Members (ECM) and 3 Trustees answered the roll call. Chaplain Morgan is absent. The 3rd Vice Commander and the Adjutant are vacant.

Reading of the Minutes: Commander Abney called for a suspension of the reading of the minutes of the prior meeting. Trustee Babic moved for acceptance of the minutes as published and was seconded. Motion carried.

Introduction of Guests: Bob Loomis & Charles Wiley, prospective members, Rex Buchs, 1st Vice Commander SAL Det of Ohio, and Keith Bell, SAL Sqdn 336.

1st Vice Commander: 1st Vice Stennis reported that the Post had finished the membership year with 106% with 316 members and the District had 96%. He also said we had received the “quota” award at the 9th District Convention. He also presented Charles Wiley and Sandra Morris of Painesville for membership. Historian Rein moved to accept them and the motion passed. ECM Martin moved to accept 1st Vice Commander Stennis’ report with a second from Trustee Babic. Motion carried.

2nd Vice Commander: 2nd Vice Gladen reported about the Dean Davidson benefit held in our pavilion. Trustee Babic moved to accept 2nd Vice Commander Gladen’s report with a second from Trustee Dillon the motion carried.

3rd Vice Commander: The office is vacant. Commander Abney and 1st Vice Commander Stennis have been involved with the Boys and Girls State Program. We have ten boys and 10 girls and will be taking them leaving 14 June and returning June 21.

Color Guard: Commander Abney thanked everyone for all the cards and calls concerning his diverticulitis attack on Memorial Day. A comment was made that Judge Advocate Whiting did a good job at Grand River as he does every year. ECM Howard reported that there was a funeral on Saturday, 30 MAY 09, that the Color Guard served.

Finance Officer: Finance Officer Rodecker reports for the month of May our outflow was $x,xxx.84 with an in flow of $xx,xxx. Our check book balance is $x,xxx.13 with a profit of $x,xxx.16. The Canteen took in $xx,xxx for the month of May. The Dean Davidson Function had income of approximately $x,xxx. The Bingo split will produce $x,xxx for the post. We will pay $x,xxx in property tax in July. Trustee Smith moved to accept Finance Officer Rodecker’s report. Trustee Howard gave a second and the motion carried.

Historian: Historian Rein has no report.

Trustees: Commander Abney acknowledged the Trustees Report distributed before the meeting. Judge Advocate Whiting asked if the casters on 10 or 12 chairs in the meeting room could be replaced. Trustee Dillon said the Trustees will be replacing them…no problem. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to accept the Trustees’ Report as published and attach it to the minutes. Historian Rein gave a second and the motion carried.

Service Officer: John Chebra reports the death of Mike Gibson who as a member of United States Air Force. We had one illness, Vern Lake, a member of the Sons of the Legion. Trustee Babic moved to accept John Chebra’s report and ECM Evans seconded. Under discussion, Past Commander Erb, Cuyahoga County Service Officer, mentioned that veterans receiving [VA] pensions or service connected compensation would receive a one-time $250 stimulus check in June 1 or July. Those on Social Security will not receive a check. [Only one(1) stimulus check per person is authorized.] Motion carried.

Chaplain: Absent, no report.

Judge Advocate: Judge Advocate Whiting reported that Karen Ondo filed a complaint against Ted Klamm. The Judge notified both parties that there would be a special Executive Committee Meeting at 18:30 on 15 JUN and sent copies of the complaint and witnesses statements to both parties. He requested that all ECM members plan to be present as they will form a Board of Officers to hear the complaint. He reminded everyone that this matter should not bed discussed prior to the meeting because it could taint the decision of the officers. If he finds evidence of discussing the complaint, he will file tampering charges. This particular complaint had to do with someone touching a female in the erogenous zones. This has happened too often, is not a frivolous complaint and must come to a halt. The Judge said he would talk to anyone after the meeting who has suggestions on curbing this type of behavior. Trustee Babic moved to approve Judge Advocate’s Whiting’s report and with a second from 2nd from Past Commander ERB the motion carried.

Pavilion Committee: Chairman Gladen had no report.

Charity Committee: 1st Vice Commander Stennis said there was approximately $xx,xxx in the Charity Fund. If anyone has questions, please contact him directly. All requests must be in writing. Trustee Babic asked if there was any follow up about the care packages being sent to our men and women overseas? Commander Abney said that the Ladies Auxiliary has sent packages that Trustee Babic should contact their unit. Judge Advocate Whiting said that Joe Man should be the person targeted with such questions because he will be the new 3rd Vice Commander. Commander asked Trustee Babic if he would keep the ball rolling? He, the Commander, would contact Joe Man when Joe is officially the 3rd Vice Commander. Trustee Babic said he would. Judge Advocate Whiting said he was approached Saturday Night ask if the Post would be interested in supporting our own American Legion Softball Team. 1st Vice Stennis told the Judge to have those interested to work thru the 3rd Vice. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to approve the Charities Committee Report and with a second from Lee Kelly, Chaplain elect, the motion carried.

Old Business: There is no old business.

New Business: Rex Buchs, Sqdn 336 asked that the SAL Advisor be moved to Assistant because of his living in Florida in the winter. Rob Erb was appointed as Advisor to the Sons of the Legion with Lenny Wietrzykowski as a member of his committee. Commander Abney mentioned that retiring Trustee Dillon could help with problems, such as the alarm system. He created a new position of Trustees Advisor for 2009-2010 to be held by “Matt” Dillon. Larry Gladen mentioned that Lake Community Development, housed across the street have been using our parking lot for about two years now and we should be compensated. Judge Advocate Whiting mentioned there was an agreement drawn with them in 2008 and Larry should contact him for a copy of it.

Good of the Legion: Past Commander Erb said that the Naval Reserve had donated a $150-box of flags to the Color Guard that we will receive shortly. ECM Martin said the Memorial Day service speech by Dr. Smith was inspiring. He saw a Letter to the Editor in the News Herald about leaving the flags in-place all year round. ECM Martin revised the suggestion to keep the flags up from May through October due to their deterioration. Carl Lubeking mentioned a three day work shop by the Ohio Transition Assistance Program. 1st Vice Commander Stennis announced that during the second week in August, the Painesville CBOC will conduct a meter transition for diabetics in the Post 336 Pavilion. Also, Mrs. Tammy Stennis, Director of our CBOC, will have a Veterans’ Appreciation Day on 18 September from 11:00 to 18:00 hrs at the Post and would like the Color Guard to participate. Charles said to contact his for his wife’s telephone numbers for more information.

With a motion from Past Commander ERB and a second from Frank Smolinski, the Commander adjourns the Meeting at 20:26 hrs. The motion carried. The Commander proceeds with the observance of the ritual.
