MINUTES OF THE MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF
06 July 2009

Opening Ceremony: Commander Abney called the meeting to order in proper form at 19:37 hrs on Monday, 06 July 2009, at the Post home with the POW-MIA flag being in place.

Roll Call of Officers: 10 Officers, 3 Executive Committee Members (ECM) and 1 Trustees answered the roll call. Trustee Babic and Smith were absent. The 3rd Vice Commander and the Adjutant are vacant.

Reading of the Minutes: Commander Abney entertained a motion for the suspension of the reading of the minutes of the prior meeting. Judge Advocate Whiting moved for acceptance of the minutes as published. Historian Rein made the second and the motion carried.

Introduction of Guests: Introductions were done under 1st Vice Commander Stennis’s report.

Installation of Officers: Commander Abney asked for a motion to suspend the normal order of business. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to suspend the normal order of business in order to carry out the installation of officers. 2nd Vice Commander Morgan seconded. Motion carried. Commander Abney surrendered the gavel to Past 9th District Commander John Diaddario from Post 336. The Past District Commander installed the newly elected officers and explained the importance of their offices. Historian Rein serving as Chaplain gave a prayer for the new officers. Carl Luebking moved to return to the normal order of business. Historian Rein seconded. Motion carried.

1st Vice Commander: 1st Vice Stennis reported that the Post had finished with a total membership for last year of 318 and would like to see this year at 345. He mentioned that Judge Advocate Whiting had led lead in recruiting for ’08-’09. He stated that he had the membership cards with him tonight. 1st Vice Commander Stennis moved to accept Thomas Fleming, Perry native, US Navy (Vietnam era), Timothy Ring Painesville resident, US Navy Vietnam and McKinley Watson III, Painesville Veteran for membership. The motion was seconded by Lou King. Motion carried. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to accept 1st Vice Commander Stennis’ report which was seconded by Carl Luebking. Motion carried.

2nd Vice Commander: 2nd Vice John Morgan reported that they made $xx.50 on a breakfast and Finance Officer (FO) Rodecker has the funds. Historian Rein moved to accept 2nd Vice Morgan’s report with a second from Lou Wezakowski. Motion carried.

3rd Vice Commander: Commander Abney informed everyone that 3rd Vice Commander Man has become ill and formally resigned. The position is vacant again. Commander Abney read a ‘thank You” letter from Chris Lowe, a Senior at Riverside High School. Sergeant-at Arms Denes reports for Mike Ryan, Color Guard Commander, that they had performed 2 funerals. Commander Abney adds that they had also marched in the Mardi Gras parade.

Finance Officer: Finance Officer Rodecker reports for the month of June our outflow was $x,xxx.22 with an inflow of $x,xxx.25. We were in th black for June 09 by $xxx.03. Our check book balance on 30 June was $x,xxx.25. The Canteen attributed $xxxx and the May 09 Bingo split was $xxxx. Due to brisk sales the JUN split will be $xxxxx with $xxxx for Post operation. The report was distributed to the members. Judge Advocate Whiting said he would be submitting a bill for printer cartridges in the amount of $xx.48. Comrade Luebking moved to accept Finance Officer Rodecker’s report and was seconded by Trustee Gladen. Motion carried.

Historian: Historian Rein has no report.

Service Officer: John Chebra reported two illnesses: Joseph Man and Ken Klann; and one death of William Boyd. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to accept Service Officer Chebra’s report with a second from 2nd Vice Commander Morgan. Motion carried.

Trustees: No report.

Judge Advocate: Judge Advocate Whiting has no report.

Charity Committee: 1st Vice Commander Stennis said he found the convention very informative about new ins and outs of raising money, most of which the Post already does. Currently there is approximately $x,xxx in the charity fund. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to approve the Charities Committee Report and with a second from 2nd Vice Commander Morgan. Judge Advocate Whiting asked if Post 336 qualifies for reimbursement of the general fund out of the Charity Fund for delegate expenses based on the classes attended by 1st Vice Commander Stennis during the convention. The Judge suggested that Mr. Stennis talk to Mike Wiswell at Department HQ. Past District Commander Diaddario urged Stennis to follow Whiting’s recommendation. The motion carried.

Chaplain: Chaplain Kelly has no report.

Old Business: There is no old business.

New Business: 2nd Vice Commander Morgan mentioned the Rib Dinner on July 25 and asked everyone to attend. Rex Bucks mentioned that a comment was made that all were not welcomed on the floats in the parade and said this was very wrong. Everyone is welcome, but we do not babysit your children. Bob Horvath mentioned that he is a member of Amvets Post 40. They and Post 1971 have Career Centers available to vets who are laid off and looking to learn a new trade. FO Rodecker moved to give Matt Dillon a life membership that was seconded by Historian Rein. Motion carried.

Good of the Legion: Carl Luebking stated that he was present tonight as the Veterans Service Coordinator for the State of Ohio to present the Post with a plaque for consistently going above and beyond in everything they do. Rex Buchs mentioned that SAL Sqdn 336 would be doing the Night’s Out on 4 AUG, a car show in SEP 09, and they are the only vendor allowed to be at the Taste of Painesville selling hot dogs & hamburgers. On August 30 they will be doing a Putt-Putt Tournament which would be $10.00 a person. Past District Commander Diaddario mentioned he is available to help anyone who needs help with the VA or CBOC. Trustee Gladen said that we have been paying a quarter for the Daily for years and would like to raise it to fifty cents. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to return to New Business and was seconded. Motion carried.

New Business: Trustee Gladen moved to raise the Daily Drawing from a quarter to fifty cents and the payout to $200 if present, but remain at $100 payout if not present. Carl Luebking made the second. Motion carried. Carl Luebking moved to return to the Good of the Legion with a second from Judge Advocate Whiting. Motion carried.

Good of the Legion: Rex Buchs suggested the Post contact Mike Wiswell at Dept HQ for partial reimbursement for our Boys State activities. With a motion from Judge Advocate Whiting and a second from 2nd Vice Commander Morgan the Commander adjourns the Meeting at 20:27 hrs. The motion carried. The Commander proceeds with the observance of the ritual.
