MINUTES OF THE MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF
08 September 2009 Opening Ceremony: Commander Abney called the meeting to order in proper form at 19:33 hrs on Tuesday, 08 September 2009, at the Post home with the POW-MIA flag being in place. Roll Call of Officers: 10 Officers, 2 Executive Committee Members (ECM) and 2 Trustees answered the roll call. ECM Evans is excused. 2nd Vice Commander and Trustee Smith were absent. The Adjutant is vacant. Introduction of Guests: No guests. Reading of the Minutes: Historian Rein moved and David Scott made the second to suspend the reading of the minutes and accept them as published. Motion passed. Acting Adjutant Whiting mentioned that at the 03 AUG he thought the Comrade Loomis had side stepped the position offered by the Commander for 3d Vice Commander. He will correct this in the minutes that Comrade Loomis accepted the position. 1st Vice Commander: 1st Vice Stennis stated that the Post has 189 members [dues paid-up] which is 58% of quota and we are well ahead of last year. This does not include the five present tonight for membership: Wallace Brainard from Painesville, Air Force; Ronald Szalay, of Austinburg, US Navy; Duane Bailey, US Navy Dessert Storm Vet; Steven Reho of Painesville, US Army and World War II Vet; and David C. Hall of Painesville, US Army. 1st Vice Commander Stennis moved to accept the five mentioned for membership and with a second from Trustee Babic the motion carried. David Scott move to approve the 1st Vice Commander’s report and with a second from Trustee Babic the motion carried. New member Hall enters the hall. 2nd Vice Commander: 2nd Vice Morgan is absent. No report. 3rd Vice Commander: 3rd Vice Commander Loomis said that one of the first things he would like to do is hand out awards as he sees fit to persons or departments who have achieved success in their field, such as the fire department, police department, school children and boy scouts in this community. In addition he wants to be able to try to get a hold of the News Herald to promote Post 336 in doing this. Commander Abney said he will give the 3rd Vice all necessary tools to present these awards and he will work closely with Comrade Loomis. Historian Rein moved to accept the 3rd Vice Commander’s report and after a second by Trustee Gladen, the motion carried. Trustee Babic, reporting for the Color Guard said that they made $xxx at the garage sale. He thanked everyone who donated and helped with the sale. There will be a 9-11 memorial service in Painesville’s Veterans Park, but doesn’t know who will make it during the day because of work schedules. Also he will ask the Civil Air Patrol to stand in on the Garfield home flag services in SEP 09. Finance Officer: Finance Officer Rodecker reports for the month of August. Our outflows were $x,xxx.61 with an inflow of $xx,xxx.75 and are in the black by $x,xxx.14. The check book balance as of 08 SEPT 09 is $x,xxx.04 and temporarily in the red by $xxx.21 until he makes a deposit. The report was distributed to the members. Comrade Dillon moved to accept Finance Officer’s report and it was seconded by Trustee Martin. Past Commander Erb asked about the pavilion loan payments. FO Rodecker said he doubled up payments one month, but couldn’t this month. There are approximately 1 ½ payments left. The motion carried. Service Officer: Service Officer Chebra reports the death of Tom Chipponi. He follows that Auxiliary Unit member, Joni Santangelo was hospitalized and that Auxiliary Unit President Cora Duruttya and Brenda Rodecker are currently ill. Commander Abney indicated that he had visited Mrs. Duruttya and Mrs. Rodecker. Judge Advocate (JA) Whiting moved to accept the Service Officer’s report and with a second by Trustee Gladen, the motion carried. Trustees: The August written Trustee Report was available to all. They refinished the Canteen floor as per Trustee Gladen. JA Whiting moved to accept the Trustee’s report as published and with a second from 3nd Vice Commander Loomis the motion carried. Judge Advocate: Judge Advocate Whiting said that due to his travels to the convention he will have the report at the next meeting. He informed everyone that there will be a special meeting of 21 SEP 09 at 18:30 hrs regarding Ondo vs. Klann. This was postponed due to Mr. Klann’s illness. Lenny Wietrzykowski moved to accept the Judge Advocate’s report and with a second from 3nd Vice Commander Loomis, the motion carried. Historian: Historian Rein read a letter from the Smolinski family thanking Post 336 for its response and the remarks at the funeral home. They appreciated the Color Guard’s perfect performance for Frank Smolinski’s memorial service as demonstrated by their donation of a check for $xxx to the post. Commander Abney suggested that the money be used for a plaque with Mr. Smolinski’s name on top and all those who contributed to the ceremony. Matt Dillon moved that the Post put a stone by the Memorial Tree for Frank Smolinski and with a second by Chaplain Kelly the motion carried. Trustee Babic moved to accept Historian’s report and it was seconded by 3rd Vice Commander Loomis. The motion carried. Chaplain: Chaplain Kelly has no report. SAL Advisor: No report. Charity Committee: No report. Old Business: There is no old business. New Business: Trustee Babic moved that the Trustee term go back to a one, two and three year term with a second from Dave Scott. Motion did not carry. Judge Advocate Whiting said this change cannot be done tonight because it involves a change to the By-Laws, which are very specific and once reviewed Trustee Babic will understand. JA Whiting moved to table this issue with a second by Finance Officer Rodecker. The motion carried. Judge Advocate Whiting moved that the Post authorize to form a Legion Riders Chapter with a second by Comrade Steve Anderson. The motion carried. Past Commander Erb mentioned that Gary Minadio, 9th District Commander, is having a Homecoming Dinner on 10 October and moved that the post send a gift of up to $xxx to represent our post. With a second by Historian Rein the motion carried. JA Whiting moved that the Post spend $xx.00 for a full page advertisement in Commander Minadio’s program booklet. With a second by Trustee Babic the motion carried. JA Whiting moved to reimburse Ron Whiting for going to the National Convention in the amount of $xxx.00 with a second by Comrade Scott. The motion carried. Good of the Legion: Trustee Gladen will have the Trustees move forward with the cleaning of the Canteen carpet. Past Commander Erb reported that the VA will stage a ground breaking ceremony at Wade Park on Tuesday, 09 SEP 09. 3rd Vice Commander Loomis mentioned that a charity poker run is at the Post at 11:00 hrs 19 SEP 09. 1st Vice Commander Stennis mentioned that the 2nd Annual Veterans Appreciation Day will be at Post 336 18 SEP 09 and they are looking for volunteers and that flu shots will be given between 11:00 and 16:00 hrs. Lake County Council will meet at Post 7 on 17 SEP and 9th District will meet on 13 SEP 09. With a motion from JA Whiting and a second from Historian Rein, a motion carried for the Commander to adjourn the meeting at 20:22 hrs. The Commander proceeds with the observance of the ritual.
