MINUTES OF THE MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF
05 October 2009 Opening Ceremony: Commander Abney called the meeting to order in proper form at 19:33 hrs on Monday, 05 October 2009, at the Post home with the POW-MIA flag being in place. Roll Call of Officers: 9 Officers, 2 Executive Committee Members (ECM) and 2 Trustees answered the roll call. Past Commander Erb is excused. 2nd Vice Commander Morgan, ECM Martin and Trustee Babic are absent. The Adjutant is vacant. Reading of the Minutes: Commander Abney called for a reading of the Membership Meeting Minutes of 21 SEPT 09. ECM Evans moved for suspension of the reading of the minutes and to accept them as published. Al Rein seconded the motion. Judge Advocate (JA) Whiting mentioned that minutes of two meetings were passed out; 21 SEP 09 Executive Committee and 21 SEP 09 Special Executive Meeting. The motion to accept minutes of both meetings carried. Introduction of Guests: The record shows that SAL Ohio Detachment 1st Vice Rex Buchs, SAL 9th District Adjutant Keith Bell were guests. JA Whiting recognized Shirley Loomis as a guest. 1st Vice Commander: 1st Vice Stennis stated that the Post has 205 members which is 64%. He has one person for membership, Tracy Cook, Concord TWSP. She is an Air Force Vet transferring from Post 7. 1st Vice Commander Stennis moved to accept Tracy Cook for membership and, with a second from ECM Mike Evans, the motion carried.In response to ECM Kapes, our 2009 membership was 319. Al Rein move to approve the 1st Vice Commander’s report with a second from Trustee Smith. Commander Abney warned Trustee Smith that he was not recognized and that further outbursts would not be tolerated. The motion carried. 2nd Vice Commander: 2nd Vice Morgan is absent. No report. 3rd Vice Commander: 3rd Vice Commander Loomis said he is in charge of handing out Certificates of Achievements in the community (safety forces, Boy Scouts, etc.). He has seen the Fire Chief twice who is very interested. He and the Chief discussed where the certificates should be presented and they agreed on the fire station. The Commander informed 3rd Vice Loomis about his forthcoming orientation to A & G testing and the Boys State programs. Judge Advocate Whiting moved to accept the 3rd Vice Commander’s Report and, with a seconded by ECM Evans, the motion carried. Finance Officer: Finance Officer (FO) Rodecker reports for the month of September our outflow was $x,xxx.94 with an inflow of $x,xxx. The balance in the check book is $x,xxx.45. The report was distributed to the members. There will be split of $x,xxx tonight leaving the Post with $x,xxx. He received the RE taxes from the county for this year and he and ECM Kapes will work on trying to lower the amount. He estimates gas consumption in the Pavilion at $7-$800 and he just received $x,xxx from Corky tonight. ECM Evans moved to accept Finance Officer’s report. It was seconded by Comrade Moore. The motion carried. Historian: Historian Rein is working on with Susie Ledoux, Ladies Auxiliary, on the Spirit of America Award for deceased Past Commander Smolinski. JA Whiting moved to accept the Historian’s report and, with a second from Trustee Gladen, the motion carried. Service Officer: Comrade Chebra said there are no sicknesses. Charles Boss, a SAL Sqdn. 336 member died. Al Rein moved to accept the Service Officer’s report. With a second from ECM Evans, the motion carried. Judge Advocate: JA Whiting reported that he had mailed the findings and judgment of the 21 SEP hearing to Comrade Klan (accused) on 22 SEP 09. His period of suspension from Canteen privileges will begin 25 SEP 09 and applythrough 23 DEC 09. ECM Evans moved to accept the Judge Advocate’s report. The commander directed the 1st Vice to notify the JA if Comrade Klann transfers. With a second from Comrade Moore, the motion carried. Trustees: Trustee Gladden distributed copies of their report. JA Whiting moved to accept the written Trustees’ Report as published and, with a second from ECM Evans, the motion carried. Charity Committee: Chairman Stennis reported that they have $x,xxx in this account and after the split it should go over $xx,xxx. He has received 2 requests for donation and a certificate of achievement for the Post. Al Rein moved to accept the Charity Committee’s report. With a second from JA Whiting, the motion carried. Old Business: There is no old business. SAL Advisor: JA Whiting thanked the SAL for the good work they do, such as the Putt Putt Golf Tournament. Their intention was not to make money, but boost the moral of the post. There were about 4- people who turned out. SAL Det. 1st Vice Buchs reported that Keith Bell, SAL Sqdn. 336, was elected as the SAL 9th District Adjutant. SAL Det. 1st Vice Buchs said he will be going to the National this weekend and looks forward to the event. In May he will be the Commander of the Ohio SAL Det. for 2010, thus they have him going to Commander School. The current Dept. Commander asked the “Sons” to promote membership. FO Roedecker moved to donate $xxx to SAL Sqdn. 336 to defray Rex’s trip expenses. JA Whiting seconded. The motion carried. No motion was made to approve this report. New Business: 3rd Vice Loomis moved that the committee consider a change of meeting date on December 7 because of the event at Hellrigels. There was no second and the motion died. Chaplain: Chaplain Kelly has no report. Good of the Legion: There will be a Cleveland-Pittsburgh tail gate party Sunday 18 OCT and a Poor Man’s Raffle the second Saturday of December. Judge Advocate Whiting thanked Comrade Steve Anderson for his diligence in trying to get the Legion Riders together and asked the Trustees take a look at the towel dispenser in the men’s room which is broken. With a motion from FO Rodecker to adjourn and a second from Comrade Dillon, which carried by voice vote, the Commander closed the meeting at 20:12 hrs. The Commander proceeds with the observance of the ritual.
