Fellow Legionnaires...

Spring is here! It’s great to finally shake off old man winter. I have a few notes I’d like to pass on about upcoming events and important dates this spring.

First, at the upcoming May membership meeting, elections for officers for 2011-2012 will be held. Nominations can be given at each membership meeting which is the first Monday of each month.

I encourage members who would like to learn more about the American Legion, volunteer in the community, or be a part of special American Legion events to think about putting your names in the hat as being officers.

Second, our membership is currently at 95% of Quota, which means we don’t have a long way to go to be at 100%. I’m asking all members who have not paid their membership dues, to please do so that the Post can be at 100% for the third consecutive year.

Third, I want to remind everyone of Memorial Day May 30th. I want to see a great turnout for both the flag placement Saturday morning May 28th and the parade Monday May 30th. It is imperative that we remember those who have gone before us. It is part of credo and our duty for all to honor those who gone before us for their bravery, courage, and sacrifice.

Lastly, our Historian Al Rein is accepting nominations for the Frank Smolinski Award. This award is open to all groups within the Post. The awards will be presented at this years “Larry Gladden Memorial Picnic” in August. See Al Rein or any post officer for information on nominations.

Everyone have a happy Easter.

God Bless

Charles Stennis, Commander

- Auxiliary -

Spring is just around the corner (hopefully) and we can start to do some activities outside again.

Our Sweetheart raffle was a big success! Thanks to all who helped with the work and to those of you who attended. We are still having our fish fries until Good Friday. A couple have been cancelled due to inclement weather. We hope everyone understands. We also have a new interim 2nd Vice. We would like to welcome Vonestta Scott to that position. She has stepped up to the plate as have Liz Miller, Connie Smith, Joanne Santangelo, and Julia Johnson. We can’t function as a unit without help, and these girls have made that more than possible. Thank you all!!

In the past couple of years our children’s Easter Party has dwindled down to about 15 children. In order for us to have a party this year we will need at least 25 children signed up. There will be a sign up sheet and sign posted in the canteen, but if we don’t get the participation needed we will have to cancel. Sorry for the imposition. Watch the board in the canteen for future dinners.

Nominations for officers will be held in April. Elections will be held in May. If you are interested in holding an office please attend our April meeting.

Father’s Day breakfast will be June 19th. This will be free to all father members.

Please pray for our troops (and their families) that God may keep them out of harms way.

Cora Duruttya
President Ladies Auxiliary

- Junior Auxiliary -

The Juniors Auxiliary is gearing up for better weather. At our meeting in March we planted poppies from seed to set out around our cannon outside. April 10th is “Poppy Days” in Sandusky. It’s a very nice service and the girls really enjoy going. We would like to see more participation of members attending in support of our efforts. Last year we had the largest Junior Group. The girls will be participating again in the Mardi Gras Parade. We have another secret idea for our “float” this year. Try to come and see us.

In closing I would like to add that our Auxiliary President Cora Duruytta has been very ill. I’m sure she would appreciate a phone call, card, or even a visit if your time permits.

Please keep all our service men and women in your prayers.

Sincerely,
Cheryl Galayda, Junior Chairman
